Radiofrequency ablation

Ablation systems destroy targeted tissue using heat from radiofrequency or microwave energy, or cold from cryoablation. They are used to treat tumours in the liver, lung, kidney and thyroid, and, through catheters, cardiac arrhythmias and varicose veins.

Common types

  • Radiofrequency ablation: an electrode needle delivers RF current to heat tissue around its tip.
  • Microwave ablation: an antenna heats tissue with microwave energy, often reaching larger zones faster.
  • Cryoablation: probes freeze tissue using argon or nitrous oxide gas.
  • Cardiac ablation catheters: RF, cryo or pulsed field catheters used in electrophysiology labs.
  • Endovenous ablation: RF or laser catheters that close varicose veins.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Energy type (RF, microwave, cryo, pulsed field) and the organs or procedures intended
  • Generator power and frequency, and number of probes it can drive at once
  • Needle or antenna gauge, length and active tip length, with cooling method
  • Single-use consumables per procedure and starter quantity
  • Imaging guidance used (ultrasound, CT) and needle guide compatibility
  • Power supply voltage and plug type
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or the destination country's registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, IEC 60601-1 reports for the generator (with IEC 60601-2-2 for RF units), and ISO 11135 or ISO 11137 sterilisation validation for needles and catheters.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can the needles from one system be used on another generator?

Usually not. Needles, antennas and catheters are matched to a generator by connector and control software. Confirm compatibility in writing before ordering consumables separately.
