Electrosurgical unit

An electrosurgical unit is a high-frequency generator that cuts tissue and coagulates bleeding vessels through an active electrode. It is used across general surgery, gynaecology, urology, dermatology and endoscopy, in theatres and in outpatient procedure rooms.

Common types

  • Monopolar and bipolar generator: the standard theatre unit offering both modes with several output settings.
  • Vessel sealing generator: delivers controlled bipolar energy through dedicated instruments to seal larger vessels.
  • Argon plasma coagulation unit: adds an argon gas module for non-contact coagulation, often used in endoscopy.
  • Compact or office unit: lower power, for dermatology, dental and minor procedures.
  • Electrodes and accessories: pencils, return electrode pads, bipolar forceps and cables bought as consumables.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or the destination country's registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, and test reports to IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-2-2 for high-frequency surgical equipment.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can we use our existing pencils and pads with a new generator?

Only if the connectors and the return electrode monitoring system are compatible. Ask the maker for a written compatibility list, and include it in the quotation request.
