Blood gas analyser
A blood gas analyser measures pH, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in arterial or venous blood, often with electrolytes, lactate and glucose. It is used in intensive care units, emergency departments, operating theatres and neonatal units.
Common types
- Cartridge based analyser: uses a single cartridge holding sensors and reagents for a set number of tests or days.
- Electrode based analyser: has replaceable electrodes and separate reagent packs.
- Portable blood gas analyser: a handheld or small unit with single use test cards for bedside testing.
- Electrolyte analyser: measures sodium, potassium, chloride and sometimes calcium without blood gases.
- Analyser with co-oximetry: adds haemoglobin fractions such as carboxyhaemoglobin and methaemoglobin.
What to tell us when you ask for a quotation
- Parameters needed, such as pH, pCO2, pO2, electrolytes, lactate, glucose and co-oximetry
- Cartridge size or test count, and cartridge on-board life
- Sample volume and sample types: syringe or capillary
- Time to result and expected daily test volume
- Quality control method: internal automatic QC or external controls
- Battery operation, LIS connection, power supply and plug type
- Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).
Documents to ask for
Buyers usually request CE marking under the EU IVDR or the destination country's IVD registration, ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 61010-1 with IEC 61010-2-101 for electrical safety. Cartridges and controls need their own registration.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
How do cartridge based analysers affect running costs?
A cartridge has a fixed test count and an on-board life once installed, so unused tests are lost when it expires. Matching cartridge size to the real daily test volume is the main way to control cost per test.
