Vaccine cold chain

Vaccine cold chain equipment keeps vaccines and other temperature-sensitive products within their required range from storage to the point of use. It is used in immunisation programmes, district stores, health centres and outreach sessions.

Common types

  • Vaccine refrigerator: an ice-lined or compression unit built to hold +2 to +8 °C, with mains or solar power.
  • Solar direct-drive refrigerator: runs from solar panels without batteries, storing cold in ice or a thermal bank.
  • Cold box: a large insulated container for transporting or storing vaccines with coolant packs.
  • Vaccine carrier: a small insulated container for outreach and daily sessions.
  • Temperature monitoring device: data loggers, remote alarms and freeze indicators.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Equipment type and net vaccine storage volume in litres
  • Temperature range, holdover time during power cuts and climate zone
  • Power source (mains, solar direct drive or battery), voltage and plug type
  • For cold boxes and carriers: cold life, coolant pack type and number of packs
  • For loggers: recording interval, alarm thresholds, data transfer method and calibration certificate
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers in immunisation programmes usually ask for WHO PQS prequalification of the specific model, together with the maker's quality certificate and calibration certificates for temperature monitoring devices.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

What does holdover time mean?

Holdover time is how long the refrigerator keeps vaccines within the safe range after the power fails. It matters in places with frequent or long power cuts, and is stated in the product's test data.
