Patient lift and hoist

A patient lift, or hoist, raises and moves a person who cannot transfer by themselves, for example from bed to chair, using a sling and a lifting arm. It is used in wards, rehabilitation centres, nursing homes and home care.

Common types

  • Mobile floor lift: a wheeled base with an electric or hydraulic lifting mast that can be moved between rooms.
  • Ceiling lift: a motor unit running on a fixed overhead rail, which saves floor space.
  • Sit-to-stand lift: helps patients with some weight-bearing ability rise from sitting to standing.
  • Bath or pool lift: a fixed lift for moving people into and out of a bath or pool.
  • Slings: full body, toileting, hammock and standing slings in several sizes, sold with or for the lift.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, ISO 10535 test reports for hoists, and IEC 60601-1 reports for electric models.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can slings from one maker be used on another maker's lift?

Only if the maker of the lift states that the sling is compatible. Attachment systems differ between makers, and an unapproved combination may not hold the load as intended, so buyers usually order slings matched to the lift.
