Hospital bed
A hospital bed is an adjustable patient bed with side rails, castors and a sectioned platform that raises the back, knees and overall height. It is used in general wards, intensive care units, maternity wards, nursing homes and home care.
Common types
- Manual bed: crank handles adjust the back, knee and height sections without electrical power.
- Electric ward bed: motors driven by a hand control or nurse panel adjust the sections and height.
- ICU bed: adds features such as built-in weighing, lateral tilt, CPR release and an X-ray translucent backrest.
- Homecare bed: a lighter, often narrower electric bed designed to fit a domestic room.
- Paediatric bed or cot: smaller platform with higher, closer-spaced side rails for children.

Documents to ask for
Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or the destination country's registration, ISO 13485 for the maker and, for electric beds, IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-2-52 test reports.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Do we need an electric bed for every ward?
Not necessarily. Many hospitals use electric beds in intensive care and high-dependency areas, where frequent repositioning matters, and manual beds in general wards to reduce cost and maintenance. The choice depends on staffing, power reliability and how often the bed is adjusted.
