Stretcher and patient transfer

Stretchers and patient transfer aids are used to carry or move patients who cannot walk, between the scene, the ambulance, the emergency department and wards. The group covers wheeled trolleys, portable stretchers and slide boards or sheets for lateral transfer.

Common types

  • Hospital transfer trolley: a wheeled stretcher with adjustable height, side rails and backrest for moving patients inside the hospital.
  • Ambulance stretcher: a wheeled stretcher with folding legs that locks into the vehicle's mounting system.
  • Scoop stretcher: splits lengthwise so it can be slid under a patient on the ground without rolling them.
  • Spine board and stair chair: rigid boards for immobilisation and tracked or wheeled chairs for carrying patients down stairs.
  • Slide board and slide sheet: low-friction aids for moving a patient sideways between bed and trolley.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration and ISO 13485 for the maker; ambulance stretchers are often tested to EN 1865.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Will any ambulance stretcher fit our vehicles?

No. Ambulance stretchers lock into a loading and fastening system that differs between vehicle builders and countries. The buyer should state the vehicle type and the existing mounting system, or order the stretcher and its fastening system together.
