Commode chair and shower chair

Commode and shower chairs are seats that help people with limited mobility use the toilet and wash safely. They are used in hospital wards, nursing homes, rehabilitation units and private homes.

Common types

  • Bedside commode: a static frame with a seat and removable bucket placed next to the bed.
  • Mobile shower commode: a wheeled chair with a toilet opening that can be rolled over a toilet or into a shower.
  • Shower chair or stool: a water-resistant seat with or without a backrest for sitting while washing.
  • Bath transfer bench: straddles the bath edge so the user can sit outside and slide across.
  • Raised toilet seat and toilet frame: raises the seat height and adds armrests to an existing toilet.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or the destination country's registration and ISO 13485 for the maker; some also ask for ISO 17966 test reports.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Is a mobile shower commode suitable for use in a shower?

Yes, if the maker states it is designed for wet use with rust-resistant frame, water-resistant seat and sealed castors. Buyers should confirm the frame material and the maximum user weight, and check that the chair fits over the toilets in the facility.
