Blood and fluid warmer

Blood and fluid warmers raise intravenous fluids or blood towards body temperature before infusion, and patient warming systems keep patients warm during and after surgery. They are used in theatres, recovery, emergency departments and intensive care.

Common types

  • Dry heat in-line warmer: heats fluid as it passes through a disposable cassette or tubing set.
  • Fluid warming cabinet: stores bags of fluid or blankets at a set temperature.
  • Forced-air warming unit: blows warmed air through a disposable blanket over the patient.
  • Conductive warming mattress or blanket: heats the patient through a reusable pad.
  • Temperature management system: heats or cools the patient through pads or blankets to a target temperature.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Type and the flow rate range the warmer must handle
  • Temperature setting range and over-temperature alarm and cut-off
  • Disposable set or blanket required, its sizes and local availability
  • For cabinets: capacity, number of shelves and temperature range
  • Voltage and plug type
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 60601-1 reports; heating blankets and pads are usually tested to IEC 80601-2-35.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can a warming cabinet replace an in-line fluid warmer?

Not for all uses. A cabinet pre-warms bags, but the fluid cools in the tubing, especially at low flow. In-line warmers heat the fluid close to the patient and are used where large volumes or blood are given quickly.
