Sharps container and medical waste

Sharps containers and medical waste containers collect needles, blades and contaminated waste safely at the point of use. Hospitals, clinics, laboratories and dental practices use them to separate waste for treatment and disposal.

Common types

  • Sharps container: rigid, puncture resistant box with a closing lid.
  • Biohazard bag: coloured bags for infectious waste.
  • Medical waste bin: pedal or wheeled bins for wards.
  • Cytotoxic waste container: marked for chemotherapy waste.
  • Specimen transport box: for transporting waste or samples.

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for conformity to ISO 23907-1 for sharps containers, UN packaging approval for transport where needed, and ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 for the maker.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

How full should a sharps container be before closing?

Most containers have a fill line, often around three quarters full. Filling above it increases the risk of needle injuries.
