Medical waste treatment equipment

Medical waste treatment equipment makes infectious healthcare waste safe for disposal by sterilising, disinfecting or burning it. Hospitals, regional waste centres and laboratories use it when waste cannot be sent to outside treatment.

Common types

  • Autoclave with shredder: sterilises waste with steam and reduces volume.
  • Microwave treatment unit: heats shredded, moistened waste.
  • Chemical disinfection unit: treats shredded waste with chemicals.
  • Incinerator: burns waste at high temperature with emission control.
  • Small on-site unit: for clinics or laboratories.

Does treated waste still need disposal?

Yes. Treatment makes waste non infectious but it still goes to landfill or municipal disposal under local rules.
