Medical face mask

Medical face masks cover the nose and mouth to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets, while respirators also filter inhaled air. Hospitals, clinics, laboratories and public health programmes use both for staff and patients.

Common types

  • Type I medical mask: for patients and the public.
  • Type II or IIR surgical mask: for clinical use, with IIR adding splash resistance.
  • FFP2 or FFP3 respirator: European respirators.
  • N95 respirator: US respirator.
  • KN95 respirator: Chinese standard respirator.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Bacterial filtration and fluid resistance level
  • Ear loops or head straps
  • Sterile or non sterile
  • Pack size and carton quantity
  • Shelf life
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR with EN 14683 for medical masks, CE marking as PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 with EN 149 for FFP respirators, NIOSH approval for N95 and GB 2626 or GB 19083 for Chinese respirators, plus ISO 13485 for the maker.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Is a KN95 the same as an N95?

No. They are tested under different national standards and approvals, so a KN95 is not NIOSH approved unless it has separately received that approval.
