Wound dressing
A wound dressing covers a wound to protect it, manage fluid and support healing, ranging from simple pads to dressings that hold moisture or absorb heavy exudate. It is used in wards, operating theatres, burns units, clinics and home care.
Common types
- Foam dressing: absorbs moderate to heavy exudate, with or without an adhesive silicone border.
- Hydrocolloid dressing: forms a gel with exudate and suits light to moderately exuding wounds.
- Alginate or gelling fibre dressing: highly absorbent dressing for heavily exuding or cavity wounds.
- Film dressing: a thin, transparent, waterproof cover often used over IV sites.
- Silver or antimicrobial dressing: contains silver or another antimicrobial agent.

Documents to ask for
Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, EN 13726 test data for absorbency and fluid handling, ISO 10993 biocompatibility data, and sterilisation validation for sterile dressings.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
How do we compare absorbency between makers?
Ask each maker for fluid handling or absorbency test results measured with the methods in EN 13726. Results from the same test method can be compared directly, while marketing figures without a stated method cannot.
Send us the specification and quantity. We compare manufacturers in China and reply with options, lead times and the documents that come with each product. NJMC sources and checks; it does not manufacture.
