Feeding tube

A feeding tube carries liquid nutrition and medicines directly into the stomach or small intestine for patients who cannot eat safely. It is used in intensive care, neonatal units, stroke and neurology wards, and home care.

Common types

  • Nasogastric tube: passed through the nose into the stomach for short-term feeding or drainage.
  • Nasojejunal tube: a longer tube positioned beyond the stomach into the small intestine.
  • PEG or gastrostomy tube: placed through the abdominal wall into the stomach for longer-term feeding.
  • Low-profile balloon button: a skin-level gastrostomy device for long-term use.
  • Neonatal feeding tube: a fine-bore tube sized for premature and newborn babies.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, ISO 80369-3 for enteral connectors, and sterilisation validation to ISO 11135 or ISO 11137.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

What is ENFit and do we need it?

ENFit is the enteral connector design based on ISO 80369-3, made so that feeding tubes cannot be connected to intravenous lines by mistake. Many countries have moved to it, so buyers should match tubes, syringes and feeding sets to the connector system their hospitals use.
