X-ray tube

An X-ray tube is the component that generates X-rays inside radiography, fluoroscopy, CT and mammography systems, and the high voltage generator supplies its power. Tubes and generators are bought as replacement parts or for building complete systems.

Common types

  • Stationary anode tube: used in dental, portable and low power units.
  • Rotating anode tube: used in general radiography and fluoroscopy for higher power.
  • CT tube: high heat capacity tube built for a specific CT model.
  • High frequency generator: supplies stable kV for modern radiography systems.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Anode type, focal spot sizes and anode heat capacity in kHU.
  • Maximum tube voltage and power rating.
  • Housing type and compatibility with the existing system model.
  • Generator power in kW, kV range and mA range.
  • New or refurbished, and warranty in months or scan count.
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR for the tube assembly or, for the US market, the maker's certification of the tube housing assembly to the US radiation performance standard (21 CFR 1020.30), ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 60601-1 test reports. A compatibility statement for the target system model is also requested. X-ray tube assemblies are tested to IEC 60601-2-28.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can a replacement CT tube come from a different maker than the scanner?

Some compatible tubes are produced for popular CT models, but fit, software recognition and warranty need confirming. Give the scanner model and serial number so the supplier can confirm compatibility before quoting.
