Ultrasound probe
An ultrasound probe, or transducer, sends and receives sound waves for an ultrasound scanner. Each probe shape and frequency range suits particular body areas, and probes are bought with new scanners or as replacements.
Common types
- Convex probe: lower frequency for abdominal and obstetric scanning.
- Linear probe: higher frequency for vascular, small parts and musculoskeletal work.
- Phased array probe: small footprint for cardiac imaging between the ribs.
- Endocavity probe: for transvaginal and transrectal scanning.
- Transoesophageal (TEE) probe: for cardiac imaging from inside the oesophagus.
What to tell us when you ask for a quotation
- Scanner make, model and software version it must work with.
- Probe type and frequency range.
- New, compatible or repaired, and the warranty period.
- Biopsy guide or needle bracket if needed.
- Connector type and cable length.
- Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).
Documents to ask for
Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 60601-1 with IEC 60601-2-37 test reports. Probe disinfection compatibility data are also useful.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Can a damaged probe be repaired instead of replaced?
Cracked lenses, cable damage and some element failures can often be repaired at lower cost than a new probe. Severe crystal damage usually means replacement, so ask for an assessment first.
