X-ray machine

An X-ray machine produces radiographic images of bones, chest and other body parts by passing X-rays through the patient onto a detector. Fixed systems are installed in radiology rooms of hospitals, clinics and imaging centres for general radiography.

Common types

  • Digital radiography (DR) system: uses a flat panel detector for immediate images.
  • Computed radiography (CR) system: uses imaging plates read by a separate CR reader.
  • Ceiling suspended system: tube mounted on a ceiling rail for flexible positioning in busy rooms.
  • Floor mounted U-arm system: compact design for smaller rooms.
  • Analogue film system: a basic unit using film and cassettes, now less common.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Generator power in kW and maximum kV and mA.
  • Detector type, size and whether wired or wireless.
  • Number of detectors and whether a bucky table and wall stand are included.
  • Tube mounting type: ceiling, floor or U-arm.
  • Workstation, DICOM and PACS connection.
  • Power supply, voltage and phase available on site.
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, destination country registration, ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 60601-1 with IEC 60601-2-54 test reports. A radiation licence for the room is usually required locally.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can an existing analogue room be upgraded to digital?

Often yes. A retrofit flat panel detector with its own workstation can replace film or CR cassettes on many existing units. Check that the generator and bucky sizes are compatible before ordering.
