Medical film printer

A medical film printer, or dry imager, prints diagnostic images from CT, MRI, X-ray and other modalities onto film or paper. It is used in radiology departments that still give patients or referring doctors a hard copy.

Common types

  • Dry thermal film printer: prints without chemicals or a darkroom.
  • Dry laser imager: uses laser exposure on heat developed film.
  • Paper printer for medical images: lower cost colour or greyscale prints.
  • Wet laser imager: older type needing chemical processing.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Film sizes supported and number of trays.
  • Print speed in films per hour and resolution.
  • DICOM print connection and number of modalities linked.
  • Film or media type and supply arrangement.
  • Power supply and footprint.
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking or US FDA clearance where the printer is regulated as a medical device in the destination market, ISO 13485 for the maker and a DICOM conformance statement.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Can we buy film from any maker for our printer?

Most dry imagers are calibrated for a specific film type and may give poor image quality with other media. Confirm the printer model before ordering film.
