Common types

  • Lead apron: front protection or wraparound designs in set lead equivalence.
  • Lead free or light lead apron: composite materials that reduce weight.
  • Thyroid collar: protects the neck during fluoroscopy.
  • Lead glasses: protect the eye lens of interventional staff.
  • Mobile lead screen: a wheeled shield for staff standing near the source.

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking (staff aprons and collars as PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425, patient shields under the EU MDR), ISO 13485 for the maker and test reports to IEC 61331-1 (materials) and IEC 61331-3 (protective clothing, eyewear and patient shielding) showing the stated lead equivalence. The destination country's registration may be required.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

How often should lead aprons be checked?

Many departments inspect aprons at least once a year by visual and fluoroscopic or X-ray check for cracks. Folding damages the shielding, so aprons should be hung on proper hangers.
