Knee orthosis

A knee orthosis is a brace worn around the knee to support, protect or control its movement after injury, ligament surgery or in arthritis. It is used in orthopaedic clinics, sports medicine, rehabilitation and by orthotists.

Common types

  • Knee sleeve: an elastic or neoprene sleeve for mild support and warmth.
  • Hinged knee brace: side hinges give stability while allowing bending.
  • Post-operative ROM brace: an adjustable hinge that limits the range of motion after surgery.
  • Knee immobiliser: holds the knee straight after injury or surgery.
  • Unloader brace: shifts load away from one side of the knee, used in arthritis.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration and ISO 13485 for the maker; ISO 22523 covers requirements for external orthoses.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

What does a ROM brace do?

A range of motion brace has a hinge with adjustable stops that let the clinician set how far the knee may bend and straighten. It is commonly used after ligament or other knee surgery, with the range increased during recovery.
