Electric wheelchair
An electric wheelchair is driven by battery-powered motors and steered with a joystick, for users who cannot propel a manual chair. It is used by individual users at home and outdoors, and in care homes and rehabilitation centres.
Common types
- Folding lithium electric wheelchair: light and folding for car transport and travel.
- Standard indoor and outdoor power chair: a heavier base with larger batteries and longer range.
- Heavy-duty power chair: for higher user weights and rougher terrain.
- Power chair with electric tilt, recline or elevation: adds seating functions for users with complex needs.
- Power add-on unit: a motor kit that attaches to a manual wheelchair.

Documents to ask for
Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, ISO 7176 test reports including power and control systems, and UN 38.3 test reports and safety data sheets for shipping lithium batteries.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Can lithium-powered wheelchairs be shipped by air?
They can, but lithium batteries are regulated as dangerous goods. The batteries need UN 38.3 test reports and proper packing and labelling, and airlines set limits on battery size, so most bulk orders ship by sea.
Send us the specification and quantity. We compare manufacturers in China and reply with options, lead times and the documents that come with each product. NJMC sources and checks; it does not manufacture.
