Vision screener
Vision screeners are charts and instruments used to check visual acuity and detect refractive errors or other eye problems quickly, often before referral to an eye specialist. They are used in schools, primary care, occupational health, driving licence centres and eye clinics.
Common types
- Visual acuity chart: printed or illuminated chart with letters, symbols or tumbling E optotypes.
- Digital acuity chart: a screen that shows charts and tests chosen by the examiner.
- Photoscreener: a handheld camera that estimates refractive error and eye alignment, often used for children.
- Vision tester: a desktop viewer that runs a set of acuity, colour and depth tests.
- Colour vision test: plate books or digital tests for colour vision deficiency.

- Screen size or chart format, and language of letters

Documents to ask for
Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration and ISO 13485 for the maker; charts are often designed to ISO 8596, and powered instruments come with IEC 60601-1 or equivalent electrical safety reports.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Does a screener replace an eye examination?
No. A screener identifies people who may need further testing, and those who fail are referred for a full examination. It is a quick first check, not a diagnosis.
