Ophthalmic surgical equipment
Ophthalmic surgical equipment is the machines, microscopes and lasers used for eye operations such as cataract, retinal and refractive surgery. It is used in eye hospitals, day surgery centres and ophthalmology departments.
Common types
- Phacoemulsification system: uses ultrasound to break up and remove a cataract.
- Vitrectomy system: removes the vitreous gel during retinal surgery, often combined with phaco.
- Ophthalmic operating microscope: a microscope with coaxial lighting for eye surgery.
- Ophthalmic laser: YAG, retinal photocoagulation, excimer or femtosecond laser.
- Intraocular lenses and surgical instruments: lenses implanted after cataract removal and micro-instruments.

Documents to ask for
Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, IEC 60601-1 reports, IEC 60601-2-22 and IEC 60825-1 for lasers, and ISO 11979 for intraocular lenses.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Why do buyers check consumable packs before buying a phaco machine?
Each operation uses single-use packs and tips designed for that machine. The cost and local supply of those packs often matters more over the machine's life than the purchase price, so buyers confirm them first.
