Dental unit

A dental unit is the patient chair together with the instrument delivery system, water and air supply, suction, light and controls that a dentist works from. It is used in dental clinics, hospital dental departments and dental schools.

Common types

  • Chair-mounted unit: the instrument tray is mounted on the chair, the most common layout.
  • Over-the-patient delivery: instruments hang from an arm above the patient's chest.
  • Cart or mobile unit: instruments on a separate cart, suiting small rooms or field use.
  • Portable dental unit: a case-sized unit with compressor and suction for outreach.
  • Handpieces and accessories: high-speed and low-speed handpieces, scalers and curing lights.

Documents to ask for

Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or local registration, ISO 13485 for the maker, IEC 60601-1 reports, and ISO 7494-1 for dental units and ISO 6875 for dental patient chairs.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Is the compressor included with the dental unit?

Often it is not. Many units are quoted without the compressor and suction motor, which are installed in a separate room. Buyers should confirm what is included and ask for an oil-free compressor sized for the number of chairs.
