Capnograph (EtCO2)

A capnograph measures the carbon dioxide in exhaled breath and shows the end tidal CO2 value and waveform. It is used during anaesthesia, in intensive care, during sedation, in emergency medicine and to confirm tracheal tube placement.

Common types

  • Mainstream capnograph: the sensor sits directly in the airway circuit.
  • Sidestream capnograph: draws a gas sample through a line to the analyser.
  • Handheld capnograph: a small standalone unit for emergency and transport use.
  • Capnography module: plugs into a modular patient monitor.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Mainstream or sidestream technology.
  • Standalone or module, and the monitor model it must fit.
  • Intubated and non intubated use, with nasal cannula sampling lines.
  • Consumables: airway adapters, sampling lines, water traps and quantities.
  • Battery life and display of waveform and respiration rate.
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 60601-1 with ISO 80601-2-55 for respiratory gas monitors.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Mainstream or sidestream, which is better?

Mainstream sensors respond quickly and need no sample line, but add weight to the airway. Sidestream suits non intubated patients through nasal lines, but the line can block with moisture, so water traps and spare lines are needed.
