Anaesthesia depth monitor

An anaesthesia depth monitor processes the EEG from forehead sensors into an index that reflects the hypnotic level of the patient. It is used in operating theatres and intensive care alongside standard anaesthesia monitoring.

Common types

  • Standalone depth monitor: a separate unit with its own screen.
  • Monitor module: an EEG based depth module plugged into a patient monitor.
  • Multi channel EEG depth monitor: shows more raw EEG detail for advanced users.
  • Paediatric capable monitor: validated for use in children with suitable sensors.

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, destination country registration, ISO 13485 for the maker and IEC 60601-1 test reports. Single use sensors should come with ISO 10993 biocompatibility data. EEG based monitors are also tested to IEC 80601-2-26.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

What is the main running cost of a depth monitor?

The single use forehead sensor, one per patient, is usually the largest ongoing cost. Ask for the sensor price and confirm whether other sensors can be used with the monitor.
