Body composition and medical scales
Medical scales measure body weight, and body composition analysers estimate fat, muscle and water using bioelectrical impedance. Both are used in hospitals, clinics, nutrition and fitness centres, while stadiometers measure height.
Common types
- Body composition analyser: multi frequency impedance with printed or digital reports.
- Column or platform scale: for adult weighing in clinics.
- Baby scale: for weighing newborns and infants.
- Wheelchair, chair or bed scale: for patients who cannot stand.
- Stadiometer or ultrasonic height measure: for height and BMI calculation.
What to tell us when you ask for a quotation
- Type of scale or analyser and maximum capacity.
- Graduation and accuracy class for medical weighing.
- Analyser frequencies, segments measured and report content.
- Height measure range and integration with the scale.

- Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).
Documents to ask for
Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR, ISO 13485 for the maker and, for scales used in medical practice in Europe, conformity as non automatic weighing instruments of accuracy class III or better under Directive 2014/31/EU. Some countries also require local metrology verification.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Do medical scales need legal metrology approval?
In the EU and many other markets, scales used for medical weighing must be approved and verified as non automatic weighing instruments. Check the destination country's rules and ask for the scale's type approval certificate.
