Video laryngoscope

A video laryngoscope has a camera near the blade tip so the larynx is shown on a screen during tracheal intubation. It is used in operating theatres, intensive care, emergency departments and ambulances.

Common types

  • Macintosh style blade: similar shape to direct laryngoscopes.
  • Hyperangulated blade: for difficult airways with a limited mouth opening.
  • Reusable blade system: blades reprocessed between patients.
  • Single use blade system: disposable blades over a reusable handle.
  • Paediatric and neonatal blades: smaller sizes for children.

What to tell us when you ask for a quotation

  • Screen size and whether it is on the handle or separate.
  • Blade types and sizes, reusable or single use, and annual volume.
  • Image recording and export.
  • Battery life and charging.
  • Cleaning and disinfection method for the handle.
  • Quantity, destination country and the delivery terms you want (for example EXW, FOB or CIF).

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, ISO 13485 for the maker, ISO 7376 for laryngoscopes and IEC 60601-1 test reports. Single use blades need sterilisation or cleanliness documentation.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Are single use blades worth their running cost?

Single use blades remove reprocessing work and cross contamination risk, but cost more per intubation. Departments with low volume or limited reprocessing often prefer them.
