Cystoscope

A cystoscope is an endoscope passed through the urethra to view the bladder, and related scopes reach the ureter and kidney. They are used in urology departments for diagnosis, stone treatment and tumour resection.

Common types

  • Rigid cystoscope: used with a sheath and bridge for diagnosis and procedures.
  • Flexible cystoscope: more comfortable for outpatient diagnostic checks.
  • Ureteroscope: semi rigid or flexible, for stones in the ureter and kidney.
  • Resectoscope: for transurethral resection of prostate or bladder tissue.
  • Nephroscope: for percutaneous kidney stone removal.

Documents to ask for

Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, ISO 13485 for the maker, IEC 60601-1 with IEC 60601-2-18 for electrical parts and validated reprocessing instructions.

Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.

Is a bipolar resectoscope better than monopolar?

Bipolar resection uses saline irrigation rather than non conductive fluids, which greatly reduces the risk of dilutional hyponatraemia (TUR syndrome), although fluid absorption still needs monitoring. It requires a compatible bipolar generator, so check what your theatre already has.
