Gastroscope
A gastroscope is a flexible endoscope passed through the mouth to examine the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum, and a colonoscope examines the large bowel. They are used in gastroenterology units for diagnosis, biopsy and therapeutic procedures.
Common types
- Standard video gastroscope: for routine upper GI diagnosis and biopsy.
- Slim gastroscope: smaller diameter, can pass through the nose.
- Therapeutic gastroscope: larger working channel for bleeding control and other treatment.
- Video colonoscope: longer scope for examining the colon.
- Duodenoscope: side viewing scope for ERCP procedures.

Documents to ask for
Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU MDR or US FDA clearance, ISO 13485 for the maker, IEC 60601-1 with IEC 60601-2-18 for the processor and validated reprocessing instructions for each scope model.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Why are duodenoscopes discussed separately for reprocessing?
Their elevator mechanism at the tip is hard to clean, and regulators have issued specific reprocessing warnings. Many hospitals look at models with disposable end caps or single use designs.
