Tumour marker and cancer screening tests
Tumour marker and cancer screening tests detect substances in blood, stool or tissue linked to certain cancers. Laboratories and screening programmes use them to support diagnosis and monitoring alongside clinical assessment and imaging.
Common types
- Immunoassay tumour markers: tests such as CEA, AFP, PSA and CA 125 run on analysers.
- Rapid tumour marker tests: lateral flow tests such as PSA or faecal occult blood.
- Faecal immunochemical test: detects blood in stool for bowel screening.
- Molecular cancer tests: detect gene mutations or methylation markers.
- HPV tests: detect high risk HPV types for cervical screening.

Documents to ask for
Buyers ask for CE marking under the EU IVDR, where most cancer tests need notified body review, or destination country IVD registration, along with ISO 13485 for the maker and performance study data.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Can a tumour marker test confirm cancer?
No. Tumour markers can be raised in other conditions and normal in some cancers. They are used with other investigations and are often most useful for monitoring.
