Microbiology and cell culture consumables
Microbiology and cell culture consumables are the dishes, flasks, media and loops used to grow and handle microorganisms and cells. Hospital microbiology labs, research facilities and pharmaceutical quality control labs use them every day.
Common types
- Petri dishes: polystyrene plates for agar media, sterile and vented or non vented.
- Prepared culture media: ready poured plates, tubes or bottles of agar or broth.
- Dehydrated culture media: powders the laboratory prepares and sterilises itself.
- Cell culture flasks and plates: tissue culture treated plastics for growing cells.
- Inoculation loops and spreaders: single use sterile tools for plating samples.

Documents to ask for
Buyers usually ask for CE marking under the EU IVDR or local registration where the product is sold for diagnostic use, ISO 13485 for the maker, ISO 11137 sterilisation validation for irradiated items, and a certificate of analysis for media lots.
Certificates and registrations belong to the product and its manufacturer. We check them with you against the rules of your market before any order.
Are prepared plates better than dehydrated media?
Prepared plates save preparation time and come with quality control by the maker, but have short shelf life and need cold shipping. Dehydrated media last longer and cost less to ship, but the laboratory must prepare and check them.
